Impertinent details:
1. Bring your sense of humor and Christmas spirit!

2. If you're an apex predator (true carnivore) bring a slab of meat to throw on the grill, primary consumers (vegetarians) can bring a salad. The concept here is pot luck. If you're queasy about bring raw meat you can bring your favorite dish. Rule of thumb, bring enough for yourself and a new friend.

3. Wear comfortable clothes but CHRISTMASSY clothes, it may be a three floor hike to the roofdeck and a turn at the grill.

4. Bring a friend (if you want) and let me know. Any friend of yours is a friend of ours.

About Carnivore Night:

Although the first-ever carnivore night was held on the 14th of Feb 1997, it's not just a valentine's day celebration. Carnivore Night is held for various reasons on random dates throughout the year. It started as a crusade to feed home-cooked meals to friends who lived alone evolving into a joyful celebration of life and friendship.... Since then, it has undergone many reincarnations (bringing us to this 42nd installment)

CN 39 was valentines 2007 (my first valentines dateless but not single)
CN 40 was I'm getting older again this year (John cooked dinner for my birthday)
CN 41 was last october (Welcome to the Philippines, crash course on local cuisine)

Carnivore Night 38: Survivor Film Crew

WE just had to celebrate. Three weeks in isolation, with our existence threatened on a daily basis.

No pork. No alcohol. Regulated Ciggies and a dwindling supply of toothpaste.

On the brighter side... we survived Durian's seven meter swell without a trace of seasickness. And we survived the mystery meat.

I promised Jeanette, my roommate, that as soon we got back to Manila, I'd treat her to a beer and also cook dinner.

So on the day she arrived, we threw an impromptu version of Carnivore Night. Really short notice...

Marcelle did his magic tricks. And all John and Martijn had to do was put their heads together for 5 minutes before figuring things out.

We fire-spun a bit. After a year, I'm a bit rusty... but I love spinning in the rain, barefoot on the roofdeck. So yes... I can't remember half the tricks... but it felt good.

Attendees were: Jeanette, Krisette & Hrbs, Clair, Marcelle, John & Martijn (from Yokogawa - both were working on the same project we were, only they weren't part of the dreaded Film crew)

We served: Roasted Squash and Onion soup, Dijon Chicken, grilled rosemary potatoes, Lamb chops, veal bratwurst, hungarian sausage & a salad everyone promptly forgot.

Accompanied by: Beer. Heineken, San Mig Light, Super Dry. Andreas' Mango Rhum (Thank you Robin!!!) and a bottle of red wine from somewhere. Martijn had a coke...

Independence Day Dinner

When: June 12 (Monday) 7:00pm
Where: *shhhh! secret*
Food: Filipino
Attire: Farmer pinoy style
RSVP: June 10 (Saturday) 6pm. If you don't know how to get in touch with me. Leave comment here with email address. If we know you, we'll send an invite.

Impertinent details:
1. Bring your sense of humor and pinoy pride!

2. This is the first time we're holding it outside of *original location* It's also going to be the first party to be held in the house in *shhh! secret!* (we're still in the process of moving some stuff). No boxes yet, the house is kinda bare... Warning, we may have to sit on the floor if I can't move enough chairs by the weekend.

3. If you can, bring a home cooked Filipino dish for you and a friend. Bring the recipe as well. We'll compile it and send it out to party attendees.

4. If you can't cook, or you're not too familiar with Filipino food, no worries. Bring drinks. If we run short, we can always order :D I'm making chicken adobo (cooked in soy sauce and vinegar) and leche flan (like a creme caramel). We might also have grilled liempo (pork belly) or tilapia (St. Peter's fish <- while Tilapia is actually a west african fish, and the word is widely accepted in English, it's interesting to know that it is also called St. Peter's fish in English)

5. Please come in Farm-style Filipino Costumes. Dig out your stuff from Linggo ng wika. Come in a saya, kimona or do an Andres and come in red pants and a chino. No barong (it's too easy) While we will accept you whatever you do look like, please try not to shock us too much by appearing in a bahag (g-string). I still have neighbors I want to get to know. You may change in the house.

6. If you really, really, really don't have a Filipino costume and can't improvise. You may come in casual clothes. We'll lend you a malong... or a bahag ;) (I'm kidding!)

7. There's a shuttle leaving the studio at 3pm (SHARP) on Monday. Be at the gate at least 30 minutes prior to departure. It will arrive back at the studio between 6 - 7 am the following day (TUESDAY). There is no time difference yet between Makati and Alabang. Bring a mat/ futon we're sleeping in the living room.
